The containers must fit easily in a transparent, re-sealable plastic bag with a maximum size of one liter. The plastic bag must be shown at the security checkpoint separately from your other hand luggage.  One plastic bag is allowed per person. This also applies to children and infants.

Certain liquids of more than 100ml per container may be allowed, these being:

  • Medication in liquid form required for your journey
  • Baby food and special dietary foods

These liquids must be shown at the security point where they will be subjected to additional checks. You may only take these liquids on board your flight if they have been approved by the security staff.

** Firelighters in hand baggage
One lighter per person is allowed, provided it is carried on your person and not in your hand baggage.

*** Batteries and battery packs in your luggage
For safety reasons you are not allowed to carry any spare batteries or power banks in your checked-in baggage . You may take spare batteries and power banks, which contain lithium, in your hand baggage as well as e-cigarettes provided the maximum output of these objects does not exceed 160 Wh (watt-hours) and that following conditions are met:

  • If the output of each battery and/or each power bank exceeds 100 Wh then no more than two spare batteries and/or power banks can be carried in your hand luggage.
  • The battery’s electrical connections must be protected from contact with metal or other batteries as this could cause the battery to short circuit. We recommend the batteries are kept in their original packaging. If the original packaging is not available, you must tape over the electrical connections.

Batteries in a portable electronic device (PED) with an output not exceeding 100 Wh may be carried in your hand luggage or in your checked-in luggage. Batteries over 160 Wh (e.g. large power banks and car batteries and others) are forbidden as both hand luggage and checked-in luggage. Any special regulations and limitations by the airlines must be observed.

Passenger rights

In the event of denied boarding, flight cancellation, significant delays or downgradings Bern Airport and the Swiss Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA) will inform passengers about their entitlement to compensation. The printed flyer is based on the rights for airline passengers as defined in the EC (European Community) Regulation 261/2004. In Switzerland the EC Regulation 261/2004 is applied based on the bilateral air traffic treaty between Switzerland and the European Community (SR 0.748.127.192.68, see also subsection 7 «Consumer Protection» in  the appendix to the treaty).
